I got health insurance for the first time when we got our youngest fur, Pfeiffer. It is super affordable to get it when they're pups and for us, it was WAY worth it. We got PetPlan for her.

I have some basic coverage for Marcel, but I'm not sure I'll keep it bc now that he's 6...the premium is almost not worth it, even though he's had no claims.

For Wylie, our oldest, he has WAY too many pre-existing conditions to make it worth it.

I think it's an excellent idea to get for puppies, right when you get them. That way..even if you only keep it for the first 2 years - you'd be covered for anything major that was revealed within the first 2 years. That said, you NEED to make sure whether there are exclusions in any coverage that is specific to yorkies!

Here is a thread that a helpful read (though not totally current info): http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...rifaj-dvm.html
