Definitely have the pre-op blood work done. You never want to take any chances. I think some dogs are more apt to lick their wounds than others. Watch him carefully, especially if he has absorbable sutures. Our Maggie was spayed earlier this month and she was back to normal in a day or two. She had 5 baby teeth pulled also so she was sore. You just need to make sure to restrict his activity, no jumping until he's healed. It's easier said than done
