Your dog needs 1/2-1 oz of water per pound. If it's hot or your dog's exercising, it would need more than if it's lying around and it's cool. It's sort of common for a dog to become frightened of its bowl, especially aluminum bowls, I don't know if they see their reflection and it scares them or what. Sometimes, animals get a little sick and attribute the feeling to the last thing they remember doing, so this could make them avoid a bowl. Unless, very ill, an animal will usually drink all the water it needs, so coaxing to drink water really isn't necessary. For those that eat canned food, since it contains a lot of water, no additional water may even be necessary. My guess is your dog is drinking out of the water bottle, don't forget to put fresh water in it every day. Even clean water can start producing too much bacteria after a couple of days. The chlorine that keeps water sanitary evaporates when exposed to air.
