Just teach her the "Leave It!" command and she will readily drop it, back off and look to you, knowing she is going to get a treat and happy praise from you. She not too young to learn but won't get it down pat until she's been learning it for months. So work a lot at first on the leave it lesson and then after 2 mos. of frequent training, teach this at least 2 -3 times a week for about 2 - 3 minutes. Tibbe thinks the dropping part is the best thing in the world as he gets his mommy to smile really big, get up NO MATTER WHAT ELSE SHE IS DOING and go to get him a treat, give it to him and tell him what a goooooood boy he is and he gets a little tickle, scratch or pat and more big smiles. I taught him well so that he is just inured to dropping it - doesn't think twice.
