I was home alone, and decided I wanted tostadas with fresh frijoles fritos. (Refried beans) My mom has always been a health nut, so instead of making them in lard as is traditional, my mom taught us to use a little bit of olive oil, you just throw in a dried chile and it adds a very nice flavor. I put in the oil and let it warm up before putting in the chile. Something happened in another room, and I left the kitchen to go check it out. I forgot all about being hungry and went to watch tv. By the time I remembered the oil had completely burned off. Or so I thought. When I moved my small pot, the remains oil caught on fire! I didn't know about needing to smother oil fires. Instead, I put it under running water. *poof*
