I politely disagree with you on the treatment not being painful. I have seen many dogs treated from Heartworm at the Rescue where I volunteer and trust me there is pain involved with some dogs. Perhaps in some cases other circumstances are causing the pain but I do not want to give the impression to someone reading this thread that the treatment for Heartworm is minor. You are correct about limiting the amount of activity following treatment, that seems to be rough on the dogs also.

To the OP, I live in Georgia and we are advised to treat our dogs 12 months a year with a Heartworm preventative.
