Check in the travel size items in the drug store. I have several 1 load sized pouches of detergent. Each one is slightly bigger than a teabag. I can't remember where I got them, have had for years, but keep them in my suitcase for emergencies, like if I had to wash stuff in a sink or a laundromat. That would be lighter and less potential mess than a Ziploc of powder. I like the idea of picking up towels there. I find if you get the rougher, less plushy towels, (like thin $5 beach towels) they absorb better before washing.
