Life with Abbie :)

Good morning, YTers!

Well, we'll have Abigail with us for two whole weeks, tomorrow. I just thought I'd drop a note and give an update on how we're faring so far.
She's taking to the crate, pretty well. Though she has the run of the house, there are times she needs to be crated for safety's sake. She doesn't complain too loudly or long before settling in. During the day, when she falls asleep - I just put her in the crate with the door open, so she sees she has the freedom to stay or come out. Yesterday, I couldn't find her at one point and went tearing through the house looking for her. So many places for a little one to hide! Never did it occur to me to look in her crate; but, that's where hubby found her. She crated herself!!! Last night, she slept through (yeaaaaaaaaaahhhh!) until around 6:30am, when she started complaining a little. I'm trying to get her to be content until at least 7 or so, so I ignored her whining and drifted back off. Well, evidently we didn't have the crate door secure; because around 7:30 I heard a little indignant *bark* in the bedroom. She'd come to find us! LOL "Hey! Are y'all gonna sleep all day? Hungry li'l dog, here!"

Thursday evening began a series of 'firsts' for her. I (carefully) clipped the hair off her ears with sharp scizzors. I did very well, if I do say "so" m'self! Those little ears stick straight up now.

It was such an unseasonably warm February day here, in VA - I took Miss "A" to the pet store in town, where we bought our first leash and some Pet Silk shampoo and conditioner. Then, the shop owner leashed her two y/o Yorkies and we all sat outside in the sunshine, for awhile. Abbie had a very pleasant first-leashing experience

Abbie rode to and from town in her pet car seat. Wasn't happy about it - but, she did it.

Back home, I put to use the shampoo and conditioner on both dogs. I'm guessing since she's just nine weeks old, that was her first bath.

She still hasn't won Mozart over (10 y/o mix), and she does get on his last nerve sometimes. But, he tries so hard not to hurt her. He's beginning to stand his ground a little instead of retreating on top of things, or into the vegetable bin. He sort of "huffs" a warning at her.
Thanks for reading this far and sharing our Yorkie experience! She is going to be a holy terror, I see that!
