Hi Sue, I had the same problem with Max when he was a pup. It took a few days to convince him to leave our driveway, but then we were off and walking a least a mile at a time. He also did not like new surfaces: brick, grass, sidewalk. Each surface required more coaxing.

Be patient with your pup. Don't show any anxiousness. Be confident and cheerful. Put his harness and leash on, go outside and say, "Let's go" every time he wants to lie down.

If he doesn't move, relax for a few minutes and let him stay where he is. Then try "let's go" and a step forward again.

Be persistent and keep taking him outside every day. He will surprise you one day and take off walking.
