I am just now reading this thread for the first time.

I think the fact that you even reached out like you did, and question everyone, tells the story. You had a gut reaction, and you followed your heart.

I applaud you for what you did. It is not easy. I know you are feeling down, but it could have been worse. You lost your boyfriend, but you still have your precious Yorkie.

One last thought - does he have a house key?
