I use the small wahl battery operated clippers. The blade is 1" across and the whole thing is 4". If you clean them and oil them, they shouldn't pull hair. I got mine at Sally's beauty supply for about $18 (less than the cost of one grooming). When I shave a whole body, I use human corded clippers, but they are louder and a little more scary.
