I had a foster pup that went through this. He had the wrong surgery done by a general vet...just a pin in his hind leg and it never healed because those bones are large and twist so a plate is needed. His owner then, after he had this fracture for six months, turned him over to us. He had bone grafting done and a plate and he recovered very well! This is why I always strongly encourage people to take their pups to board certified ortho surgeons. Many times vets will offer other fixes to try and help people out financially, but in the long run it ends up costing more.

You did not say if it was the hind leg or front...but either way you really should do your best to keep her activity very limited. If it was the front leg, I have been told that only 5% are successful if splinted and/or casted. Not very good odds.

Yes, you definitely want to keep her activity to a minimum.....he was crated for quite some time.

The donor site ends up being very painful so be mindful of that. Give pain meds as ordered and try to avoid touching that site...I found it to be very uncomfortable for him.

Good luck....I will keep your baby in my thoughts and prayers.
