Blood work should ALWAYS be done before any surgery where they are going under anesthesia. My Uncle had a healthy looking pup but when they did the pre surgery blood work like I suggested they found out that there was a problem with her liver and she would not have made it through surgery. Eventually when she was a bit older they went to a specialist who was able to spay her but she will be on meds for her liver forever. An EKG is not necessary unless they think there is a problem or the dogs is known to have an issue.
