My yorkie has a stronger bond to mom and dad but he lays on me the most since I'm home all the time. But when mom gets home he lays on her or on the foot of her recliner when it's up. He lays on dads recliner some but not as much as me or mom. He's 5 years old now, well, almost. He'll be 5 on April 1.

I think it all depends on the dog how well he will be trained, at least in my brief experience. Bentley is my first dog so I have no real experience with training dogs. But Bentley knows how to stay, sit, high-five and he only listens sometimes for lay down. He rarely comes when called. He seems to ignore my voice most of the time. I'm the one who trained him. I did use hand signals (even though I made them up since I had no idea what the real signals were, I used what seemed logical to me and he responded to. Some dogs just don't like to be trained.

Have you tried training with little treats or pieces of lunch meat? My dog is not food motivated so that didn't work for us. But most dogs are food motivated as far as I can tell so that might help you get more of what you want out of your training sessions. Do a few 15 minute sessions per day spaced out. Dogs don't have much of an attention span like humans have. OF course potty training is a never-ending training session though.
