Do you plan to let him have roam of the WHOLE house or just of your bedroom? If it is your bedroom that should be okay, but if it is of your whole house make sure there is nothing out that he can get ahold of before you go to bed at night that could cause him harm.

I think if you just let him off the leash and harness in your bedroom with the door shut he would probably settle down and go to sleep. The harness and leash being on all night probably make him uncomfortable and in anticipation of a walk, which make him not want to go to sleep. So I think giving him free roam of an enclosed area in your home would be safer for him and probably more relaxing for him.
