Sevoflurane is the better anesthesia. My vet uses that. The dog recovers more quickly.

Also, personally, I would insist on pre-op bloodwork, post-op pain meds, and post-op antibiotics (to prevent infection, especially at the surgical site area). Also, it wouldn't hurt to give the dog probiotics, as the antibiotics can kill off good bacteria which can lead to intestinal problems.
