I don't think all doctors automatically do the pre-op blood work, I know many people here have had to specifically ask for it. I think it’s more important in breeds prone to liver problems, and that’s why many here suggest it. What’s wrong with the one shot for pain relief, I think it’s a pretty good idea, and probably much safer than lots of oral meds. I have read that rabies shouldn’t be given with the other shots. Bottom line is if you’re not comfortable with your vet and you’ve lost confidence in him, it’s probably best to find someone else. I don’t think I’d automatically look for someone else, just because he doesn’t do pre-op blood work, some vets are trying to save you money, contrary to what people post here.

Oh wow, I didn't realize $150 was the cost of the neuter, I thought that was for the shots.
