You might want to look at silkys, too. They are as smart as yorkies, maybe a little calmer temperment.

Since both of these dogs are terriers, they have loads of energy and are fearless but some traits will allow you to determine which breed it is more likely to be. The Yorkie is naturally determined and confident and likes to be in charge. In spike of its small size, a Yorkie is far from cowardly and shy, and its stubborn nature makes the breed a challenge to train. The Silky is known as obedient and a quick learner. Silky terriers are a little more relaxed than a Yorkie and are more curious than stubborn. A Silky placed outdoors also loves to dig and play, while Yorkies are typically happier as lap dogs.
Even better, I think, is a combo of both, but I could be somewhat prejudiced...
