My girl does that. She sort of gags & coughs - and sometimes vomits saliva. Sometimes she vomits bile too. She's been doing it since she was a puppy. When we got her, she had a respiratory infection. So we originally thought it was from that. But the coughing/gagging never went away 100%. Turns out, she has digestive issues. We have her on probiotics now. I also have to make sure that she eats regularly throughout the day & doesn't gorge herself at one meal. Otherwise, she'll vomit. If she skips a meal, she's more prone to gag & vomit. I put her daily kibble ration in a plastic container & basically give her "kibble treats" multiple times a day.

I'm not saying that your pup has digestive issues or a respiratory infection. Of course, it's VERY possible that he has a bit of piddle pad lint stuck in his throat! I just wanted to relay my experience with what sounds like similar behavior. I'm sure your vet will be able to pinpoint exactly what's going on on Monday. Good luck!
