I always wean my by grinding up the dry puppy food and leaving it out in a small bowl for the pups to lick on. That way you don't have to worry about a mushy mess and the pups can eat when they feel like it. I put the ground up food in a small double sided bowl and I also put out a small double sided bowl of water.
