I have a pet friendly alarm, but when my two large house cats (16 and 13 lbs) get to wrestling, they can set it off. I wouldn't be concerned about one small dog setting it off though. The kitties have only set it off a couple times in the two years we've had it. The motion sensors give me a huge sense of relief knowing that my house is covered should someone break in. I would go for it
