Today I introduced Ruger to a human friend he has never met. He walked over to her and let her pet him, then he jumped on her a bit and using the leash and commands I got him to stay down. Then, for no reason, he starts barking like he's going to tear her apart, tail wagging all the time. She was very calm and let him approach where he started jumping, barking and doing what he often does which is bumping her hands but not biting. I picked him up and he started licking me like crazy, and when I brought him close to her he lunged and started barking again. Put him down and the same thing. Again, tail wagging like crazy.
He does this a lot with people he doesn't know, but not always. I've found that if people just reach down and start rubbing and petting him he will mellow out.
Any ideas what's going on here? He's always leashed, so he's not out of control, but his behavior is making both of us look bad.
