Well, my x-pens are metal, but I have seen some that are plastic. I got the metal because is collapsed the flattest. It has sections about 2 feet wide by about 2 feet high that can be put up in any number of shapes.
I think I got mine at Petsmart or someplace like that.
I like it because when I travel I can flatten it and put it under the suitcases or anything else I am packing in the car. I have even checked it on the plane and put it in one of those boxes they have available.
