We had very similar concerns with our dog the first few days. Our vet told us it was normal for her to have only 2 bowel movements a day. I was concerned because she was eating great all day but would only poo before bed and after getting up, no where in between. After a fews days of regular feedings and drinking water, her stools became more consistant (3 times a day!). When we finally transitioned her completely to kibble, her poops were significantly harder than before and it hurt her to make it. She would cry and cry and strain to go. We checked her bum and her poo was stuck inside. We read online to swab a little bit of vaseline around her, you know, little hole.. and after she tried again, she was able to get it out. Make sure he's drinking plenty of water! She now poops like a champ! Also, like rubymoon asked, is he eating the same food as the breeder? If he isn't, it can wreck all sorts of havoc on his bowels. We gave our dog a little tiny half teaspoon of pumpkin mixed into her wet food/kibble combo every meal to help her transition her food. It made her poo a scary orange color but that was normal. |
