Default Not eating well

Hello! I just got my first Yorkie puppy! I've had dogs before when I was living with my parents, but this is my first small breed dog. Now I'm raising Dexter together with my boyfriend. We are trying to make sure he grows up a healthy and happy dog, so we do a lot of research online as to what to feed him and all that.
We got Iams Smart Puppy food for toy breeds (food that was recommended by the breeder). We try to put him on feeding schedule and not just leave food out for him all day long. Over the weekend we added some wet food (Cesar Canine Cuisine) as a treat. We mixed it in with his dry food and he just gobbled it down in seconds. This morning I gave him just the dry food and he would only eat it if I sat right next to him and basically fed him from my hand, that is not something I want to make a habit of :-/
Should we just wait until he gets hungry? Or should we add a bit of wet food every time?

Thank you!
