I used to use mineral oil in the eye as groomers all used to recommend it I guess back in the day maybe when tearless shampoos weren't as effective or something. I finally stopped using it with Tibbe a while back as I just worried I could hurt his eye using that eye dropper, as he moved one time while I was dropping a drop in and I think it did touch the surface but thank goodness, he got no eye injury or problem but that was enough for me. Stopped then.

Besides, I have long used tearless dog shampoo anyway. But as for the sterility of mineral oil, I don't know if all of it is sterile but some brands say they are. Plus, we know the water that we rinse the dog in isn't sterile and it gets in their eyes much of the time, as does some of the shampoo lather with those less cautious or if the dog moves, shakes it down into his eyes. Still, while I never had any problems with using mineral oil, it is good to know about the MSDS information. Between that information and the fear of the eye dropper scratching the cornea, no more mineral oil for us. Never a day here I don't learn something.
