I don't agree with any of this personally,
I don't see how cotton balls do anything but allow water to seep in ears and stay there-we actually clean ears in the tub with our ear care solution right before and after shampooing-then again mine don't take a bath I use the shower extender head to rinse then, no standing water.

I use wen on my dog which allows for self adjusting ph balancing for hair and not fur and most dog shampoos unless breed specific are for fur not hair as yorkies have...
