slats are 2.5 inches apart...I really don't think any could fit through. I also saw one that was made of plexiglass and my girlfriend actually had her son install a piece of plexi on each of her gates cuz she was nervous about her pup getting stuck when she wasn't home! lol My Mia was a climber and those wooden gates she cleared easily, literally cleared them, she could not get over these gates.
