I totally agree, so even though it killed me.... I had to stay true to myself and say that the commute was a deal breaker. My husband does it 3 days a week and it's ok, but he leaves home at 6am and leaves work at 4pm to avoid rush hours. With that, he can make it there in an hour and it's an hour of a steady drive. I thought it would be nice if I could get the same hours since sometimes we don't have time to even talk or just relax at home and it could be an hour together to talk about private stuff without kid ears around, plus where he works (where we never go together) there are some great restaurants and stuff we could actually get to eat at after work someday. My last job was amazing, the hours were flex, so I got in and left when my work for the day was done, and it was 2 miles from my house, so I could go home on lunch and in the summer I'd walk the dogs 2 miles on my lunch break!
My job now is 6 miles from home, but it's in downtown, and I need to park in a garage a few blocks away. So the drive in is about 15 mins and then the walk is about 5. Its not bad, but I cant' leave before 5 ever unless I come in at 8am. I might do that in the summer if I'm still here.
I shouldn't complain though, something perfect and more permanent will come up.

I don't mind contracting at all, it's just unstable but Im putting money in the bank in case I don't find something and the contract ends. It would be nice to be here until June, and then look for a job while summer is here and I can enjoy time off outside to do yard work (our yard needs help!), work out, walk the dogs more, etc.... Im trying to get money in the bank so I can do that in June and try to take 3 months off work.
