Not to upset you or cause you worry, but everything I have read and heard from our vet says not to trim around their little eyes. The reason is when it starts growing back and it's prickly and can cause eye infections! One groomer that used to groom Toto shaved up her nose and our vet had a fit! I have to keep an eye on it and a close check on her eyes ... that was months ago and it's still not completely grown out ... so keep an eye on it when it begins to grow. Also, you are right that the little rear is trimmed with scissors instead of a razor! Are you getting the "Puppy Cut" or leaving it long? When Toto is groomed the upper third of her ears are trimmed really short [it pulls the ears down if it's left long], the hair that grows way down inside the ears are plucked [this keeps down ear infections], the nails are trimmed, the hair between the pads of the feet is trimmed away [keeps them from sliding and falling on slick surfaces], the long hair is rounded on the ends of the paw, the private parts ... some of them shave but I don't allow Toto to be shaved [just scissor trimmed] ... the reason is that when it begins to grow a little it is prickly and causes her to scratch really bad and lick herself [she is one of the few dogs I have ever seen that
never licked herself before a groomer shaved her there and she hasn't done it since the hair grew back!], then the little rear end is trimmed short with scissors. Since we learned to put little rubber bands on the long tail hair and the long hair on her haunches we don't have a problem with her poop getting in the fur back there! Their little anal gland is also supposed to be "expressed" and I forget the reason for that ... just know that it's important! We have Toto groomed about once a month and I bathe her every week. I try to brush her every day ... expecially to take down her topknot at least. If I skip a day the topknot is so matted sometimes I have to almost seperate it hair by hair!
Hope this helps and I certainly don't claim to be an expert on any of it ... but we have been through "groomer hell"
and if anyone can be spared that experience I'm glad to tell you what we have been through!
