It sounds like you are doing everything right- Poor pumpkin, I would just try to keep up with him as much as you can- since he was in a small cage for so long it might take a little longer to break that. Maybe you just need to take him out more? I know my adult male ( 5 years) goes pee maybe every 20 mins or so- they have such small bladder, plus he is a male and I think in general they go more LOL.
