I have a 3 year old and she is potty pad trained. She uses a potty patch with the fake grass. I contained her in an x pen with the potty patch until she started going on it - use lots of praise and treats. I slowly would increase the area where she was contained until it ended up being the entire kitchen area, then the kitchen and hallway, then the kitchen, hallway and living room and so on. I don't want to discourage you but it took her a year to catch on. I have read that some dogs take weeks but I wasn't that lucky.
