Tibbe stays in a puppy cut with no topknot and I keep these clumps of hair clipped down on Tibbe and he rarely tears. I usually just use safety-tip scissors or a little mustache grooming tool from Walmart that can't cut the skin. But it does, once you cut the long hair length off and have 1/4" or so left, take out the rest safely albeit slowly as it's not a fast cutting instrument but it is safer that way. I've used it for years and never nicked Tibbe. I also use it on the top 1/3 of his ears and all along the edges. I tried every way I could to see if it would cut my skin along the edge of fingers, arms, nose, etc., and it didn't before I tried it on Tibbe.
