I had a baby that at 8 years old, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure because of a leaky valve issue....a little more complicated than just that but same results. My baby was put on Vasotec and Lasix and she was given a tiny little sedative....this has been years ago and I do not remember the little sedative but I THINK is was Acepromazine....she only got a very tiny little dose, just enough to keep her calm, but not enough to be staggering drunk!
She did beautifully with the medications she was on, and she lived almost another 6-7 years. Her activitylevel was restricted, but that was OK by me...we just did short back yard excursions, no running wildly around chasing the squirrels, or running up and down the fence barking at the neighbors dog....we just went and checked out the fruit trees, watched the fish in the pond, watched the birds at the feeder, enjoyed laying in the sun.....I hope your little Benji does as well as my Aija did.....dont get discouraged with the diagnosis....did you have him seen by a cardiologist? A specialist? I would suggest that, just so you can be sure the most appropriate meds are being utilized.
