If your Med Equip stores don't have anything, buy some plaster strips or the more expensive fiberglass strips and find something that will fit over his midsection and make a cast over the underlying structure that you can then strip away and have a kind of abdominal cast that well-clears his torso but is hard and in the case of the fiberglass, waterproof. When I used to apply casts, I would often practice making them using all kinds of structures, etc., to get down some of the technique before I started practicing on actual people around the house here or the office. For a time, all my friends and coworkers totally avoided me!
