My friend was looking to adopt a yorkie from a rescue and I noticed that a lot of them were 8-9 pounds but they keep telling me she needs to be less than 7. She walks at least 2 miles a day (not including running around the yard, house, up and down the stairs) and we feed her maybe a total of .5 cup of food a day (split in 2 servings). Hardly ever any treats (and only holistic) but she just cannot lose weight. |
If you can feel ribs easily, she shouldn't be overweight. You also seem to be feeding the proper amount, and the fact that she's getting 2 miles a day + seems to me like she should be fine.
It's hard to tell though from your pictures...
I mean, this one:
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/alb...ictureid=51142 she does look a tad overweight, but it could just be the angle or the hair.
Do you have an aerial view of her? May be best to take in the bath when she's wetted down.
For example, here's Jackson from above (16lbs):
I always gauge his weight by looking at him from above.... also you should be able to see/feel a 'tuck' under the waist.
With that said, all Yorkies are different, and it may just be her figure.... but
