Thank you for your replies - and for the info about what xrays / ultrasound will and won't see.
Our little chap is called Herbie. He is such a little character it is impossible not to fall in love with him!
I felt I understood everything when I was at the vet, it was only when I got home and started to think about it that things didn't seem quite as clear. I may be wrong about the vet giving him meds to reduce the mass, I need to clarify that.
We're due to go back later this week for a review, so I will write my questions down and make sure I go through them.
