Yeah I never had to use tape but heard that advice from my breeder. I would use drafting tape (more expensive than masking tape but way less sticky) available from stores that supply architects (like hobby or craft stores) if you're concerned about pain when taking the tape off. It looks exactly like masking tape but is made to take off really easy so when architects draft with it they don't tear their vellum.
