People who work with shelters and rescues do see many purebred and mixed breed dogs (even the small ones, including Yorkies) in shelters. Many changes happen in people's lives. They think they want that cute little furry puppy but don't realize all that goes into training a dog to be a good family member. Then there are those who are just plain irresponsible. Either way there are way too many dogs in shelters.
In the NYC area small breed dogs pour into the shelters daily. It is a pitiful sight to see. It is tragic.
I hope you interview your prospective owners very well but even the best owners have changes in circumstance in their lives. It is a huge responsibility that you are undertaking. |
