With most treatments, the flea has to bite the dog to ingest the poison and die. Fleas leave little black grunge (like sand) on the dog. This is flea poo and will turn red when wet (digested blood). I wouldn't use any additional products on him for flea control to avoid toxicity in the dog. You can use Diatomaceous Earth on the dog, as this is non-toxic, and will break down the exoskeleton of the fleas, causing dehydration and death to the fleas.

Sprinkle regular table salt on carpets and in furniture, leave overnight and vacuum in the morning. This dehydrates any fleas taking up residence in your home. Do this as often as you want, it won't harm the dog.
