My best advice is to go to Univ of Tennessee - Dr Karen Tobias. They will even do phone consults and will refer you to the closest specialist surgeon in your area.

Also Yahoo has a liver shunt support group on it.

And yes baring complications the surgery done by a qualified surgeon is usually quite successful.
