We got a new pup the end of Sept. (when he was 12 wo) and our 2 older dogs still don't like him, play with him or treat him well. The oldest dog (13 yo) mostly ignores him, except when he gets too close to her or a toy by her -- then she growls and snaps. Doesn't actually hurt him, just scares the living daylights out of him.
The 11 yo dog is closer to his size (11 yo is 15 lbs, new pup is about 7 lbs now at 6 mo), so the pup is constantly jumping in his face, trying to get the 11yo to play. The 11 yo won't play, snarls at him, shows his teeth, and tries to turn away. We have to intervene to keep the peace in the house.
We are hoping that when the pup gets neutered this Thurs., things will get better. (Both older dogs are fixed.) We were really hoping the 11yo and the pup would become playmates, so I completely understand your pain and frustration. |
