Jules is a female from Southern California.
We are first-time puppy and Yorkie owners and just wanted to say hello to the wonderful community here at YT. Lots of great info here.
It has been an adventure so far since we've first had Jules (Since Nov' 24 - about 6 weeks). From taking care of her ailments (ear infection/Giardia) to everyday training (potty and toning down her biting).
Jules' breeder told us she was born 9/6/12, but during her last visit to the vet on 12/29/12, he told us that based on her teeth, she was much younger than her stated age - at least 12 weeks, no more than 13.
She's not AKC registered or anything like that, but we did get her from a home (saw a local ad online) and saw the mom and dad in person. She was 1.7lbs when we first saw the vet and she had a yeast ear infection in her right ear and a Giardia +4 in her soft/slightly bloody stool sample.
After treating her with antibiotic ear drops and two rounds of oral medication for Giardia (Panacur 1st round then Metronidazole 2nd round) - she has now a clean bill of health and also currently weighing in at 2.6lbs!
Because of this uneasy feeling that she was younger than stated plus her being sick with the ear infection and Giardia, we felt that it might be safer and better to get one more round of Parvo shots (breeder had paper records stating 2 rounds of shots given)... We have taken her in for 2 rounds of shots with our Vet so far... Hopefully this isn't overdoing it, but just being protective
She has a great attitude, socializes well with all of our friends and family coming over to meet her (she plays with them and doesn't run away or try and bite them). She just had her first play date with a miniature dachshund from a home that has all their dogs vaccinated and Jules did very well interacting with the cat and their rottweiler! Sorry this was so long, but thanks for reading!
