Confinement and routine are a must IMO til at least the age of 2.

It is us, the humans, who need the training not the dogs usually.

Mine were accidental free after 6 months of age but I has a human hawk unless they were in there playpen/confined. Mine never pottyed in their crib/beds.

If they made any tiny sign out the door we went. They were afraid to smell anything on the ground inside because I would immediately whisk them outside to potty! If they went near a door that let to outside I would take them out immediately even if they had just gone potty.

Potty play potty.
Potty sleep potty.
Potty eat potty.

Life revolved around potty for them and still does. Even as adults mine typically go outside every 3-4 hours during the day. Overnight they will hold it from 11p to 6or 7am.
