How old is he?

If he's having pain while he's pooping, then yes a vet visit is in order. If he's done and then yelps while looking at the poop, that's a different story. Is he making hard or soft poops? Hard poops may be painful. You can add a few green beans to his food along with some extra water to soften/bulk them up making it more comfy coming out.

If he seems to be fearful of his poop after the fact, just talk to him gently and reassuringly to calm his fears. Tell him 'It's okay, you're a Good Boy' and give him a treat when he poops on the pad. Never scold him for any accidents, just clean up and remain positive (no mumbling under your breath), just be silent.
