I tend to use the word pups. Although my adult dogs are no longer pups. For me pups are a term of endearment.
It is a term that re-evokes(if that is even a word), that incredible love and protectiveness you have for a pup. I just never lost that feeling when the boys became older.
I also use the term boys a lot. Like Hi boys I am home; how are the boys, etc.
