I've been thinking about this topic a lot lately.
I think there is something to note about those who got their yorkie, bonded with and trained their dogs and then had a family.
Elvis was so defensive of baby Marek from day 1, he is a timid mellow lap dog but he put himself between baby Marek and the other dogs who he used to readily submit to, he even "smiked"(showed teeth) to people who came here.
I really think while jealousy is possible, seeing how mom especially is with a new arrival can trigger a dog for whatever reasons to also be defenaive and protective of babies.
However, training a toddler to be respectful of a dog isn't the easiest parenting responsibility either. |
