So very true. I do agree that not every pup/kitten are placed irresponsibly at Christmas time - or for that matter other major holiday times.

But there a lot that are; judging by what shelters and rescues tell us.

Once again, it is not a knee jerk re-action that no puppy what so ever will be placed at this time; but rather an educaitonal opportunity to say; Hey think about the following.

What in my mind is fair is; if you as the parent are thinking about getting a dog, any dog for a child of yours.

1) Be prepared that this pup is likely going to be your responsibility over the long term for their health, welfare, exercise, and training requirements.

2) For certain you will be financially responsible for their vet care, meds et al.

3) If your home is very busy over Xmas time, think about picking up the puppy later, and giving a gift certificate or another indication that a puppy is on it's way.
Each home and situation is different. But I will say as a general rule of thumb I discourage placement of puppies at Xmas time.
