I agree, he is too young to be expected to be potty trained. Generally puppies should stay with their mommies till 12 wks, but whats done is done. Be patient & consistent with him & when he potties where you want him to, tell him good boy go potty while he's in the act of going. Also, an x-pen is a great idea & you can put his food & water, bed and potty pads in it when you can't be there to watch him like a hawk. Good luck & congratulations on your new family member. Oh & 1 more thing, he should be eating every couple of hours & it's always a good idea to have some Nutrical on hand just incase he experiences hypoglycemia & NO collars only a harness to protect his tiny trachea & Do Not take him outside of your home or fenced yard till he's FULLY vaccinated.
