I don't know how common it is but Gracie has had very little tearing. Does your pup have hair in it's eyes. That can cause some tearing. The problem is that when there is continual tearing the dampness causes something called red yeast to form around the tear duct area and then eventually you get tear stains and gunk around the eyes.

There are a variety of ideas about what causes tearing. Excessive tearing could be caused by the body reacting to something. Some have found changing diet has helped. Some have had good success changing to distilled water.
